Separation Support & Family Law Services

Centacare New England North West have a range of services and programs to support families and professionals in the family law space who are dealing with family breakdowns and separations.

We can assist with mediation, support for individuals, parenting support and programs, as well as counselling and other programs.


Family & Relationship Support & Mediation:

The Family Relationship Centre at Centacare provides families with support around their relationships and parenting through appropriate information and referral; provide separating families help to achieve workable parenting arrangements (Parenting Plans), outside the court system, through information and referral, support and family dispute resolution services (including property and financial dispute resolution services); and deliver high quality, safe and ethical services.


Parenting & Caring Support:

Our Post Separation Co-Operative Parenting (PSCP) Programs assists separated parents with interventions to establish new cooperative parenting arrangements. All services are child-focused, intensive and holistic. Both group work and one-on-one individual support is available.


Family Law Pathways Network (FLPN) for Professionals:

Centacare are also proud to partner with the Family Law Pathways Network (FLPN) which facilitates a steering committee across the New England North West region, supporting a network of representatives from legal firms, community legal services, family services,  Children’s Contact Services, family violence services, community based Aboriginal services and family support services. The Network supports connection between community Family Law service providers, education opportunities, and investment in the new generation of Family Law Service Providers.


General Mediation:

Centacare also offers other forms of mediation that fall outside of our funding streams, which can be conducted on a fee-for-service arrangement. These mediations cover workplace, community, child protection arrangements and other family mediations that do not fall within funded guidelines. Parenting can be one of life’s most rewarding experiences, but it can also be challenging at times. At Centacare, we’re here to support you through every stage of your parenting journey. Our Parenting Program Service offers a range of evidence-based programs designed to take the stress out of parenting, help you navigate challenges, and build strong, respectful, and positive connections with your children.

We focus on fostering respectful relationships, improving communication, and helping parents understand their child’s developmental, social, and emotional needs. Whether your child is just starting school, entering adolescence, or facing a difficult life transition, our programs provide practical tools, strategies, and encouragement to help your family thrive.

Programs are available as face-to-face or online group sessions, and in some cases, one-on-one sessions (subject to suitability and scheduling). One of our facilitators will reach out to conduct an intake and suitability assessment for our group programs, ensuring you are matched with the course that best meets your needs.

Family Counselling

Family Counselling aims to assist individuals experiencing difficulties within their relationships.

Family counselling can help people to better manage personal or interpersonal issues connected to their children & family during marriage, separation or divorce. The aim of this service is to help strengthen relationships to prevent any further breakdowns. The wellbeing and safety of children is a priority. Family Counselling is a short-term, early intervention service.

Family Rural Resilience

The Family Rural Resilience Program (FRRP) is a free and flexible early intervention, wellbeing program that works with children aged 0-18, and their families.

FRRP programs are designed to build skills in wellbeing and family resilience. We aim to support families to increase wellbeing, safety, connectedness and overall functioning. We provide short and long term case management as well as a range of courses to help you achieve this.

Rural Parenting Resilience

The Rural Parenting Resilience Program (RPRP) is a free and flexible parenting support program.

RPRP supports parents and carers with children aged between 0-12 years. The aim of the RPRP program is to support parents/carers to increase the connection with their children by providing access to peer support groups, supported playgroups and parenting skills development throughout the year. Other activities that may be run under the RPRP program include school readiness programs, case management and advocacy, supported playgroups, and community events and celebrations.

Specialised Family Violence

The “Disrupting Family Violence” program, offered through Centacare’s Specialised Family Violence Services offers a holistic family oriented approach to support those who use violence, and those affected by and who have witnessed domestic and family violence in their families, with an overarching goal of increasing the safety of women and children.

The Disrupting Family Violence program has two main components:

  • A Family Safety Worker who offers direct support to the Partner of the user of violence, and indirect support for the children and wider family through referrals, safety planning and education.
  • A local Men’s Behaviour Change Program; group facilitators/case workers who work directly with men who are users of violence, over approximately a 6 month period, including one to one support and assessment; and a 20 session group based program.

Community Visitors Scheme

The Community Visitor Scheme provides volunteers for 1 hour per fortnight to visit with residents of aged care facilities. These residents would otherwise be isolated, as many are far from their family.

Imagine being able to make someone’s day just by visiting them for an hour or two each fortnight. Making a difference in someone’s life is one of the most rewarding things that you can do. And what better way to do that than by volunteering with the Community Visitors Scheme? This program offers friendship and companionship to people who may be facing loneliness or isolation. It’s a great opportunity for you to give back to your community and make a real difference in someone’s life. Plus, you get to meet new people and have some fun too!

Our Glen Innes office is located in Grey Street, within Glen Innes’ CBD. This is our second location in this town, having outgrown our first location within months of opening the office there.

Gunnedah is the place where agriculture, innovation and small business meet. We have the giant natural canvas of our landscapes – and a few giant man-made artworks!
